Cook Foolproof Oatmeal in a Rice Cooker

Rice cooker meet oatmeal; oatmeal meet rice cooker. Today, life just got ten million times easier. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but this tip from TheKitchn is really going to make morning breakfast a pinch.

Christine Gallary cooks up her most important meal of the day right in her rice cooker. It’s as simple as adding in your liquid of choice and oats right into your cooker. Now, the only tricky part to get down is how much to put in. You don’t want too much, or you’ll have a huge bubbled-over mess on your hands. Since all rice cookers are not the same, it may take a trial-and-error approach before you get it right. But man, once you do, you’re golden.

So instead of spending 20 minutes on breakfast or skipping it altogether, you can set yourself up the night before, turn on the rice cooker in the morning – porridge setting if you’ve got it- (the regular setting should work ok), take a shower, take the dog for a walk, and oh look…breakfast. Go ahead and add some nuts, cinnamon, and fruit. I bet you could get away with tossing a few apple slices in the rice cooker to get things going.
