Add More Kitchen Counter Space in Seconds with a Cutting Board

You can never have enough counter space. Actually, I don’t believe there’s such a thing as too much space. If you have a small kitchen or are making a grand home-scratch meal that requires more room than you have, it’s time to bust out your cutting board.

By pulling open one of your kitchen drawers and placing your cutting board right on top, you have extra counter space in literally seconds. While this isn’t the perfect solution, it does give you a little more space to set a mixing bowl or various ingredients down.

In the video below, Jenny Stewart from CHOW.com shows you how it’s done. As shown, by placing a towel on the open drawer, you’ll help stabilize your cutting board when you set it on top. If you’re serious about using this tip, using drawer liners instead of a dish rag would give your cutting board more of a grip. Slipping and sliding should never be in your cutting board’s vocabulary especially when it subs as a temporary counter top.

Of course, you don’t want to add to much weight, or use your makeshift counter space for slicing veggies or any major food prep. While there are obvious limitations with this method, such as awkward walking space in the kitchen, or having to lift over the taller part of the drawer to reach your items, at the end of the day, it will give you enough space to get the job done.

If you’re not too keen on using your kitchen drawers, you could always purchase an over-sized cutting board, and place it across your sink for added space.

Would you ever give this a try?
