Keep Your Clothes Looking New With Table Salt

Don’t you just love fresh, new vibrant clothing, bed sheets, rugs and everything else colorful? It’s such a bummer when your gorgeous colors have a frost of fade from multiple washes.

While we’ve discussed how to get stains out and using vinegar as an alternative fabric softener, what about the vibrancy of your clothing? How do you keep the colors in, and the fade out?

Let’s just say a little bit of salt goes a long way! Just toss in a tablespoon’s worth of salt in your washing machine load. Even if you’re on a low-sodium diet, your clothes don’t have to be. The chloride in the salt helps to seal in your clothing, locking in and reviving those vibrant colors of yours. Bought new, bold-colored fabrics? If you haven’t already made reusable color-catching sheets yet, go ahead and pour 1/2 cup of salt into your first wash to prevent your colors from running. No need for that. It should be noted, don’t try this out for dry-clean only materials or HE washing machines.
