Build a DIY Garden Wall with a Pallet and Landscape Fabric

Adding plants to your space doesn’t have to take up more room that you don’t have. Instead, why not add an indoor, vertical wall garden to your kitchen instead? Whether you want fresh herbs to add to spaghetti sauce or you’re going for a rustic feel with succulents, you can build a DIY vertical garden on the cheap with a pallet and landscape fabric.

Dave over at The Brew shows you how to make best use of your wall with a garden. Instead of leaning on the back of a wall from the floor, you can use eyehooks and a chain to hang your vertical garden for a classic look.

You first need a pallet to pull this project off. You can find these pretty much anywhere either very cheaply or for free—Dave found his on the side of a road.

Next, remove the top plates off of the pallet. Then, staple a thin sheet of wood, plastic, and landscaping fabric on the back of the pallet. This will keep the contents from falling out and damaging the wall. You could probably get away with just using the landscape fabric though.

Then, create dirt pockets with the landscaping fabric and slats to place your soil and plants in. Depending on what soil you use, you should consider sterilizing it in the microwave first.

Then it’s planting time—and really the most expensive part of the project. Though, since you’re already this far, you may as well go all out. The drapery effect of cascading plants in your vertical garden would look absolutely stunning and full. You could also add mint or parsley for a fresh aroma in your kitchen, too.

It’s a green way to add a spruce of color and gorgeous element to your space. Perfect to welcome spring. Hello Spring.
