Can You Really Cook Lasagna in a Dishwasher? Find Out with MythBusters & Alton Brown

It’s almost eccentric to think you can cook lasagna in a dishwasher. If you haven’t heard of dishwasher lasagna before, boy, are you in for a treat or what—it’s actually quite a peculiar and odd combination.

While there are a few methods of cooking lasagna using your dishwasher, the real question is—does it really work? Alton Brown & Mythbusters had the same question and put dishwasher lasagna to the test. They gathered different bits of information by installing a thermal probe to find out the true temperature of the dishwasher; in addition, the team retained the original door, but placed a piece of glass to see what was going on inside the dishwasher.

Honestly, seeing the inside of a dishwasher while running was probably the coolest part of their whole video! The guys then prepped and assembled their lasagna with thinly cut veggies inside of an aluminum container, sealing it up with heavy-duty aluminum and aluminum tape. With a temperature ranging from 135-140 degrees Fahrenheit, they cooked the lasagna in the dishwasher for 2.5 hours or so.

The results? C’mon, we’re not that nice... Watch and find out for yourself—it’s a pretty rad experiment if we may say so ourselves:
