Glue a Magnet on a Hammer to Pick Up Nails

Whether you’re working on your latest DIY project or reaching in your tool belt, nails either end up in your mouth or get the best of you with a couple of pokes. It’s really a pain to keep track of ‘em, just slowing you down in your tracks. Nonsense!

Got a hammer? Some glue? Oh yeah, don’t forget the magnet.

To solve the problem, home improvement guru Ron Hazelton has you covered. By gluing a magnet at the end of your hammer handle, you have a hands-free way to pick up and hold nails—perfect for when you need them. Simply drill a small hole at the bottom of the handle, squeeze in hot glue—epoxy should work just fine, and push in the magnet. Besides the magnet setting in place better, drilling isn’t even necessary as you can just glue the magnet right on the bottom of your hammer.

Depending on what project you have going on, this little trick is perfect for you to keep track of small metal hardware for repairs and when you’re out on the job. As a commenter points out on Hazelton’s website, this is the perfect solution to pick up fallen nails on the ground without having to bend over too much. Either way, at least you won’t have sharp shards in your mouth or unnecessary finger stabs.
