Hang up Small Tools from Hard Drive Magnets

Before you throw away your old hard drives, you may want to consider getting the magnets out of them and putting ‘em to use. Those buggers are strong enough to hold up small tools that are hogging up valuable room. Nothing beats freeing up your work area, especially if you’re limited on counter space.

Simply glue hard-disk magnets underneath a shelf – E6000 or any type of multi-purpose and permanent industrial adhesive should do. You could even get away with sticking these heavy-duty magnets on a wall or the side of a shelf depending on your setup. With the magnets being as strong as they are, you should have no problem hanging small tools from them—just nothing too heavy.

As shown above, Instructables user udubinsky hung up small tools like his screwdrivers, scissors, and wire cutters that are convenient to grab and put back as he needs them. A worktable is right underneath the shelf the tools are hanging from, too. Besides freeing up space,  it’s a great way to organize small tools you need within reach especially when you’re working on detailed projects.
