How to Make the World’s Cheapest Air Conditioner

There’s no need to spend a fortune on portable air conditioners for your living space when you can make one yourself for under $10. HouseholdHacker shows you how it’s done for less than 10 minutes, perfect for the budget-friendly home or if you’re looking for something to do on a hot afternoon. This whole concoction consists of a Styrofoam cooler, a couple of dryer vents, a small old fan, and frozen water bottles. Perhaps you have some of this stuff lying around, if that’s the case, you can make an air conditioner for virtually free. Along with being the cheapest air conditioner, it’s also crazy simple to rig up. All you have to do is trace your dryer vents on the left and right side of your cooler lid. A marker works best. Then, trace your old fan in the middle of the lid, in between your dryer vent stencils. Next, cut out what you have just marked. It’s best to cut slightly inwardly when it comes to the fan setup so it has something to set on. Have some frozen bottles ready, approximately 6 should do and stuff it inside the cooler. Feel free to add any ice packs into the mix, too. Pop on your lid, place the dryer vents on each of the cutout sides, and set your fan in the middle of the lid with the front side facing downward. Plug in your fan, and you’re good to go. This really does work. While the temps may fluctuate, HouseholdHacker reports having a successful cooling range around the 50°F mark. Not too shabby. The cheap and practical air conditioner will last you for 3-6 hours of cooling power bliss. During that time, you have a chance to freeze more water bottles for your next batch. There’s no need to be cool at extreme costs. Sweat-free never felt so good.
