Copper-Pipe-Kitchen-Rail

No matter the look you’re going for, adding more storage space in the kitchen is always a plus. Whether you have a small kitchen, a tiny cute apartment, or a cottage by the lake, everyone can use more space. I love finding more ideas (thank you ApartmentTherapy) on how to use metal in practical ways—especially copper piping to add more storage space.

The key here? Don’t overlook your walls! Your kitchen setup may be everything but storage-friendly. Let’s end this once and for all. Walls, walls, walls. It’s all about the walls, and you don’t have to be conventional about it.

You have to admit, the picture above has a minimalistic feel as well as a bit of an artistic, vintage edge. I prefer the copper tubing to a boring, stainless steel or black railing. Plus, as the copper ages and oxidizes, you’ll have a cool storage piece that’s pretty much a work of art. It’s different and offers a classic look. What I love most? It’s practical.

You could totally incorporate different lengths of copper for different looks and incorporate a vintage feel. If you have soldering skills—even better, you could probably make a really awesome-looking concoction depending on your wall space.

As Man Made DIY suggests, a 1/2” copper tubing for water lines would work just fine; pick up some flange plates and copper elbows and install your copper pipe rack with some screws and anchors. At your local hardware store, you can buy a copper pipe cutter so it’s super simple to adjust the lengths you want.

The other suggestion I thought was awesome from Man Made DIY is filling your copper pipe with the appropriate-sized dowel. Not only will this add more strength to your rail, but also you wont have to worry about dents and bending so much from wear and tear.

Of course, to hang your pots, pans and other cookware-like items, all you have to do is toss on some S-hooks and hang your spatulas, basting brushes, and the likes. Your options are limitless.
