Nuke Soft Tortillas into Crunchy Shells with a Mug and Microwave

Your microwave is ready to make hard taco shells. Good thing you’re stuck with soft tortillas because turning those things into crunchy shells is super easy and quick. Grab yourself up a coffee mug, your soft tortillas, and a couple minutes worth of time for hard taco shells in an instant.

Thanks to LifeHacker for finding the video below from FoodBeast; he shows you how to use your microwave to turn floppy tortilla night into an awesome, crunchy taco shell dinner night. Sounds more appetizing, right?

All you have to do is insert a tortilla shell into a mug—so that the shell hugs the shape of the inner mug, creating a valley to hold all of your fixings. Then, place a mug or two in the microwave on its side, and nuke your shells in the microwave…about 1 minute per shell. FoodBeast is a beast when it comes to nuking his shells, stacking 3 mugs in the microwave. Unless you have crazy super powers, it’s probably a good idea just to nuke a couple shell mugs at a time. Life’s about risk, but there’s no need to exercise this philosophy when it comes to taco night.

Once your time is up, it’s time for the fixings. Remove your shell from the mug, and add everything you want in your crunchy shell. What’s ingenious about this little trick is how wide your hard taco shells are, allowing a ton more fillings without the worry of breakage.
