Remove Hard Water Spots on an Ice Maker with Vinegar

There are instances when hard water spots or calcium deposits build up on an ice dispenser. One of the best ways to remove hard water and mineral deposits is by using white vinegar. Vinegar can handle the most stubborn hard water spots there are – though, tough stains may require an overnight soak with lemon juice.

To start off, you need to pour vinegar into a bowl, and soak a rag in the solution. Place the soaked material over the hard water spots on your icemaker, and allow it to sit on the problem areas for about an hour— it may take a little longer if there is a larger buildup. If you can, soak the affected area of your ice dispenser directly in vinegar solution (within reason). You can also use a spray bottle filled with vinegar and drench the affected area.

Afterwards, brush off the loosened deposits with a damp towel. Additionally, you can dip an old toothbrush in the vinegar and use it for extra scrubbing with baking soda. After the deposits are removed, use a clean cloth dipped in warm water to wipe away any vinegar or debris.  Make sure use paper towels to wipe the your ice maker dry so it does not leave any watermarks behind.
