The Best Way to Position a Fan in a Hot Room to Keep Cool

It’s a hot tamale out there in this heat. Between the blazing sun and mugginess (over here in the Midwest), the temps are on the rise, and it’s everything but comfortable. So if you’re looking to decrease your electric bills from running the A/C all of the time, Real Simple has a suggestion to maximize the coolness in a stuffy room. Pop a fan in an opened window, outward, so the air is blowing outside! It sounds counterintuitive though, right? I thought so too. Apparently it is not as effective to position the fan inward compared to outward. We’ve been doing it wrong this entire time you guys! By facing the fan outward, it is sucking in that hot, unbearable air out of your room and into the world; all the while, the cool air is pulled in. It’s a fantastic way to cool down at night and sleep comfortably while making sure you get the chilliest room as possible. Awesome sauce.
