Use Cornhusks as an Impromptu Basting Brush

Sometimes all you need is a basting brush to slap some sauce on your food. However, such utensils aren’t always practical to buy especially if basting isn’t something you do too often. With summer here, you’re in luck, and there’s no need to buy more things to crowd up your kitchen. If you have cornhusks lying around, don’t toss them out, you can use ‘em as a basting brush instead. For real.

After you’re done shucking the corn, grab up your cornhusks and tie them together at one end— you can use a cornhusk to tie the husks together, and if you so choose, twine or dental floss should do just fine as an alternative. Next, fray the open end of the loose husks. You can either tear them apart with your fingers or use scissors to get the bristle-like appearance of a basting brush. All that’s left is to tie the middle of your husks with another husk. Make it secure, and you’re good to dip your basting husk brush in sauce and coat away.
