The unit is making a loud humming noise like a fan. The lower freezer unit is not freezing. It is cold . The upper unit seems to be working. I put a thermometer in and the top part is staying at 33 degrees. No error codes on the unit.

What have you tried so far?

Nothing but I was thinking about shutting it off and trying to defrost if that’s an option. I did not think this unit had to be defrosted.

Hi. I have attached the Service manual on this unit for you. It sounds like your fan is not running or hitting ice when it runs. You could have frost build up from a defrost issue or a bad fan motor. Did you take the evaporator cover off to see what was going on? Was the fan running? Did the evaporator have an even frost pattern?

The fan in the back is running and there is no ice on the coils. It all looks good. The noise sounds like it is coming from behind the freezer unit.

I saw no frost on the coils at all
  • So that noise must not be coming from the freezer evap fan motor. You should definitely has some frost on the coils if your compressor is running. IF your compressor was running and no frost you may have a sealed system issue. This is a dual evap unit and has a refrigerant valve that lets refrigerant flow to one or the other evaporators or both. You could have a temp sensor that is faulty to where it is only sending refrigerant to the refrigerator evap. I have not seen that be the cause before.though You should get an error code if a sensor was bad. Run the test mode and diagnostic modes. Check for error codes. Unplug the unit for 15 mins to reset the unit and see if that helps. You could have a faulty board not telling the valve to change. I have seen that once on a different brand then yours. The valve itself could be faulty or you could have sealed system failure. Either a leak in the system or a faulty compressor. Was the coil dripping water? If so you have sealed system issues.
