Hi. I do not think this unit has a diagnostics or test mode. It does not have any type of control. This unit is equipped with a defrost timer. To start a defrost you will need to manually advance the defrost timer located in the control area. There should be a hole in the panel to give you access to the timer dial with out taking anything apart. Rotate it you get a click. At this time the unit will stop running and you will be in defrost mode.
