Organize a DIY Spice Rack like the Periodic Table of Elements

What do you get when you mix science and a spice rack together? A periodic table spice rack of glorious organization—and an awesome one at that. Wayne Hammond over there at Make organized his spice rack to mimic the periodic table of elements. I have some mad spice rack envy going on right now. All geeks rejoice—things just got a little crazy.

In place of using the elements to organize his spice rack (no, Uranium does not go on the pizza), think botanical taxonomy arranged order-family-genus-species style. Mr. Hammond over there isn’t messing around. After creating his periodic spice chart, you’ll notice the standard layout of the Periodic Table wasn’t used…did anyone else have to memorize that thing back in the day? Hammond decided to compact his design to conserve space and fit his doorless kitchen cabinet.

He then made a few U-shape stainless steel shelves to support each of the 4oz spice jars. All of the jars are labeled with their two-letter abbreviations to match accordingly. How cool!

It’s an awesome project you can easily simplify. Even if you don’t have extra space in your kitchen cabinet, you could laminate the chart, apply magnets to the back, and grab some spice jars to rig something up for a magnetic spice rack…periodic table style.

Either way, it’s a clever way to organize a spice rack that will easily make you look stupid-smart and impressive. Go for it and check out the details below for the full guide.
