Pop Salty Popcorn in a Stainless Steel Bowl

There’s no need to go out and buy a popcorn popper to clutter up more space. Chances are, you have the perfect popcorn maker hanging out in your cupboards. Alton Brown sets all of us straight—a heavy duty stainless steel bowl is all you need to make scrumptious stove top popcorn. Better yet, when you’re finished popping on the stovetop, you already have a serving bowl when it’s cooled down.

Less dishes? I’m in!

Here’s how it works. The unpopped kernals and oil settle at the bottom of the bowl, which is perfect since it’s right on top of the heat. Meanwhile, the stainless steel bowl shape keeps your popped kernals from burning as they go to the top.

It’s all about the salt, baby. Mr. Alton Brown shows you how to create the best salt--blend it into powder form and then add it to your unpopped kernals and oil mixture. It's a salty infusion, because bland popcorn just ain't right. Place some tin foil over the bowl and poke a few holes for steam. Turn on your stove burner over medium-high heat, and shake the bowl with tongs until the popping decreases with a couple seconds in between.

Remove the foil, eat as is, or add flavorings for a delicious treat.
