Rig Up a DIY Tape Dispenser with Leftover Plywood

Between duct tape, blue tape, masking tape, and electrical tape, it’s easy to accumulate rolls upon rolls of tape—especially in your garage or workshop. If you’re tired of digging through the drawers or buying what you already have, a DIY tape dispenser could just be what you’re looking for to solve the problem.

A crafty solution over at American Woodworker explains how to make a jumbo tape dispenser using leftover plywood that you can mount on your wall. Most regular tape hole diameters are the same 3-inch size, so the filler blocks you make will fit a majority of rolls. You could of course always rig up a few blocks with different sizes pertaining to your tape needs. With a dowel in the middle of each block to catch on the carved side slots for a rolling dispenser, pop the rolls in their own compartments, and you’ll have tape organization in no time.

Add another compartment for a hack saw blade or whatever you’d like—it’s a simple enough project you can customize for your shop. As seen in the picture above, there’s a small metal strip that runs across the front lip of the dispenser box; this is perfect for taping excess strips so you’re ready to go when tape duty calls.
