Make the Crispiest Hash Browns Ever with a Waffle Iron

When you can repurpose a kitchen appliance, such as your waffle maker, life cannot get any better especially when potatoes are involved. Hash browns are delicious, there’s no doubt about it. But now, there is an easy way you can make them with your waffle iron. Since this awesome, repurposed appliance cooks on both sides, you get the best of both worlds: crispy hash browns with a chewy inside. Plus, you get those perfect square indentations to hold ketchup or whatever it is you’d like to your heart’s content. You simply grate a clean potato, and squeeze out all of the water out with a paper towel. It’s super important to remove excess water if you want out-of-this-world hash brown crispiness. Then, place your shreds in a bowl and season your potatoes. You can use salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, and onion powder for a delicious treat. Looking to spice things up? Add a dash of cayenne pepper! Next, grease your preheated waffle iron with a generous amount of cooking spray on both sides. Depending on the setting of your maker, a medium-high heat will do just fine. Add a cup’s worth of potato shreds to the maker, and cook until both sides are browned. If you don’t feel like the high maintenance of grating your own potatoes, you can use frozen hash browns right out of the bag or tater tots—just remember to grease your iron. C’mon now, it really doesn’t get better than that.
