Stop the Cling! How to Make Cheap and Easy Dryer Sheets with Aluminum Foil

Dryer sheets are great for keeping your clothes smelling like a meadow full of flowers in the midst of spring, but even so, dryer sheets can get pricey buying them routinely. This is where light-weight aluminum foil comes in; more than just covering last night’s leftovers, aluminum foil can be used as a replacement for your clothes dryer sheets. We’re not kidding!

All you have to do is crunch up a ball of aluminum foil 2-3 inches in diameter and toss it into your clothes dryer. Nothing is more annoying than clothes full of static, clinging to you like there is no tomorrow. The foil will reduce the static and ensure you don’t get a surprising shock any time you pull your clothing out of your dryer, or when you wear your clothes. The foil will essentially work like a dryer sheet without the presence of a perfumed scent which is perfect if you or your loved ones have sensitive skin. If you are looking for the ‘spring meadow’ scent, go ahead and try making your own DIY wool dryer balls and add essential oils to get the aroma you please. Now, your aluminum ball will not work as a fabric softener, but there is a way around this. When you get ready to wash a load of laundry, add white distilled vinegar to your washing machine. Your clothes will be super soft and clean without the use of dryer sheets. Talk about a cheap alternative! One ball of foil can last close to half a year (6 months) in your clothes dryer. Remember to make a new aluminum ball as soon as the static returns. If you are drying hefty loads like comforters, toss in 2-3 balls of aluminum foil for static-free results.
