Air Conditioner Troubleshooting You Can Do

The failure of an air conditioner causes us to experience heat spells that are uncomforting. Here are a couple of ways you diagnose your air conditioner— common air conditioner failures include no cooling and low cooling problems.

The tools that you need for your air conditioner are a voltage sniffer, multimeter, socket set and an assortment of screwdrivers.

To begin, set your air conditioners thermostat to A/C mode and decrease the temperatures setting. If the furnace fan still kicks in, the furnace isn’t the problem. If the furnace does not work then you need to reset the furnace circuit breaker.

If you check the outside condensing unit and you find out that the fan and the compressor are not working. Pull the outdoor disconnect then use the voltage tester on the contactor wires to confirm that power is off.

If you try all of the above and the air conditioner still doesn’t work properly, you should call your local technician.
