Customize Your Home’s Airflow with Keen Home Smart Vent

Technology isn’t just limited to ovens and washing machines, hello HVAC world, hello airflow in my living quarters—nice to see you can make the international CES 2015 party, too.

Okay, so there are things like the Nest and other HVAC-related technology out there, but few and far between compared to the other automated on the market. Not anymore, the Keen Home Smart Vent is here to direct your home’s airflow and save you mad cash. Like saving you 20% per year mad cash (estimated).

These smart vents allow you to open and close them through an app on your phone so you can direct cooler or warmer air to specific rooms of your choice. By closing off the bathroom smart vent and kitchen one too, you can keep toasty warm in the living room with more airflow—where everyone is hanging out. Practicality to the max.

With built-in pressure and temperature sensors, the Keen Home Smart Vent knows the sweet spots of comfort and can help move air around for optimal performance. No more mindlessly cooling or heating your place based on the location of the hallway thermostat. So if the temperature is too high or too low, the smart vent will regulate the airflow and adjust.

While you can control each vent individually, you can also set up various zones in your home through the app to customize your preferences: opening and closing the vents based on what you want. It’s recommended by Keen not to replace every single vent in your home, but about one-third or less with their vents. The reason being, if you were to close all of the vents or a majority of them, you’d risk putting too much of a burden on your furnace or air conditioner which defeats the whole purpose.

The smart vents work with regular thermostats, Wink, SmartThings, and Iris; they’re currently in the works of developing compatibility with the Nest. You will need some sort of smart-home hub since it only communicates with ZigBee so you can connect to a router to be able to use your phone with the smart vents. Expected to come out in June 2015, each vent is going to cost you around $80 with your choice of four different sizes.
