How to Paint Plastic Appliance Handles

Nothing can give your kitchen an updated look like painting the plastic handles on your appliances such your refrigerator. Other than improving their appearance, painting covers up worn out surfaces.

For the process to be a breeze, begin by detaching the handle from your appliance. You can choose to leave the handle attached, but ensure the surrounding areas are covered with masking tape or some suitable sheeting to protect the rest of your unit.

It’s advisable to wash the handle so it is free of dirt, oils, and grime using an appropriate detergent and plenty of water. Dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. To prevent peeling and flaking, sand the handle with fine-grit sandpaper to help the paint stick to the surface.

Depending on the type of paint you are using (make sure it’s made to use on plastic), you may be required to coat your handles with a suitable primer.

Once your handle dries completely, remove the masking tape and any plastic sheeting that may have been used. Reattach your handle to the appliance.
