Keep Odors Out of Ice Cubes with a Freezer Bag

Whether you make ice cubes the old fashioned way with a tray, or have an icemaker to rely on—fresh ice cubes are a must. While I tend to use a tray, I’ve always left the cubes in the freezer, grabbing them when I need them. You’re probably nodding your head in agreement—ice cube tray or icemaker—you just grab the cubes, and go on your merry way.

Apparently, you guys, our ice storing method has been wrong the whole time. Christine Gallary from The Kitchn sets us straight:

…ice will pick up any other strong, probably unpleasant scents that might be floating around in your freezer. A freezer bag keeps all of these flavors out.

Besides nasty freezer burn that surprisingly happens to ice, too, taking that one extra step will keep your cubes fresher.

After all, bad tasting ice cubes are disappointing. Simply put, store your ice cubes in a freezer bag. Once your tray is frozen, or once your icemaker has produced ice, pour those cubes right into a big freezer bag.
