Common Causes of Leaky Washing Machines

A broken leaky washer can be nerve wrecking. Not to worry though, as you can easily fix your washer yourself.

Your washer can be either a direct-drive or a belt drive machine— the main difference is the presence of belts or the lack of it.

The first most important thing to do is to locate the leak. The most common culprits can be the inlet pipes, hose connections, pumps, outer tube seals, center post gasket or the air dome seal. Refer to your user manual to allocate these six locations on your washer.

Begin with an empty washer and slowly fill it then carefully examine to spot the source of the leak. Once you locate the leak disconnect the machine and attend to the leak.

A repair job may involve replacing the worn out parts with spare parts. Or it may also be as simple as sealing it with a few strong drops of silicon glue. However, if you’re unsure about the extent of the damage you can call an expert to assist you through it, or take a look at our repair videos to guide you.
