Fried Cereal Chow Mix? This Will Ultimately Change Snacking for Forever

Okay, this sounds totally weird, but at the same time, I have to wonder, why didn’t I think of that? Skip the dried cereal or almond milk; it’s time to get a little crazy with fried cereal. Now the cereal is not deep fried in a fryer or battered like an onion ring per say, nope, you just heat the breakfast food in butter and a skillet on your stovetop—so we have more of a sautéing action going on. Yum, what more could you ask for in a snack? Fried, salty, crunchy and sugary—hello America. Quirky humorist Charles Phoenix shows you how to come up with this oddly fascinating concoction yourself in his colorful video above. Grab up 5 of your favorite sugary cereals, it’s time to go back to memory lane that just went to a whole other level. As Phoenix points out, it’s important to get rid of the cereal dust. Why? I bet it has to do with not frying up the dustiness into black, crunchified bits. Measure out 6 cups of cereal, toss it all in a colander over a bowl, and gently shake the colander to get rid of the dust. Heat up your skillet on your stovetop, and toss in a 1/2 stick of salted butter. The added salt with help bring out the sugary goodness of your fried cereal chow mix. You can probably use coconut oil or Earth Balance instead for a friendly dairy alternative—just add a pinch of salt to get the same effects. Fry it up a bit and make sure to stir your mixture frequently. Once finished, pour your fried cereal into a big bowl and munch on it as a snack. Go ahead and drizzle chocolate on top or add it into your trail mix to sweeten things up. It’s a wildly bizarre idea turned into an ingenious snack phenomenon. Plus, fried anything is pretty much awesome in our book. What’s your favorite cereal? Would you ever fry it up into a snack mix?
