2 Ways to End Freezer Burnt Ice Cream

Nothing is better than digging into an ice cream tub filled with ice crystals…Not. Ice cream definitely shouldn’t have the consistency of taffy. A frustrating reaction, freezer burn is caused from water being pulled out of your food (ice cream in this case) and being deposited onto the surface. When your ice cream has not been wrapped or stored properly, vital moisture is lost. While freezer burnt ice cream does not taste good by any means, it is surprisingly safe and OK to consume. What can you do to offset the future of freezer burnt ice cream? We have 2 ways that are simple and efficient. #1) Use plastic wrap Before you toss your ice cream into your freezer, grab yourself some plastic wrap and gently press it down on the surface of your ice cream. Make sure to get rid of all the air bubbles. Then, place your lid on top. This method helps retain your ice cream’s moisture. #2) Cut around the container After you scoop out your ice cream, cut around the container so it is level with the surface of your frosty dessert. With your shorter container, place the lid on top and you’re good to go. If you’d like, you can even combine the first method with this one. Your ice cream will be as fresh and delicious like the first day you bought it. Photo by jocosity | Flickr
