Add Some Zest to Your Life: How to Make a Magnetic Spice Rack

We love cooking at home, and if there is anything to do with DIY, we are there. Though, you do need your cooking space to be enjoyable and simplified to get the most out of your cooking experience—especially when it comes to spices. Let’s face it, it’s a pain in the neck searching and reaching in your cupboard or drawer to add the perfect seasonings to your dish.

What’s the solution? A magnetic spice rack of course! We found a magnetic spice rack tutorial from Pennywise Cook, so you will never have to mistake the cinnamon for cumin when you’re in the cooking zone. To make this work, use 4oz plastic tins for each of your spices, and superglue a magnet on the backs of the tins. Then, if you choose, you can make labels for your spices, and tape them on the back of the tins for a cleaner look. Using a steel sheet, Pennywise Cook covered it with Rustoleum and used Velcro to hang the metal on their backsplash by the oven. It’s a simple solution that runs about $50. If you’re not too keen on using and adhering sheet metal to your backsplash, a cheaper alternative we found from Keep Calm & DIY is to use the side of your above-range microwave to stick the tins to. Or you could use the side of your refrigerator depending on your kitchen set up. Magnetic Spice Rack via PennyWise Cook
