Make an Easy Microwave Heating Pad

If you have aches, pains, or headaches, a microwave heating pad may just do the trick to offer you soothing relief (or really awesome last minute gifts).  Before you moan and groan about the hassle of making a heating pad (which can also be thrown in the freezer for an ice pack), it’s really simple, and you probably already have all the stuff you need. The Tipnut blog walks you through a straightforward tutorial to make one of your own microwave heating pads, including a fabric case to go over one. For the basics, all you need are a couple pieces of fabric or a tube sock, some filler like uncooked rice, beans, cherry pits or oatmeal, along with a little cutting and sewing to finish it up. We also love the thought of adding dried lavender and other dried herbs/essential oils to the filler concoction for headache relief and relaxation. Once you have your heating pad assembled, heat it in your microwave between 1-3 minutes, supervised. Check for hot spots, kneading the heating pad with your fingers at first, and then apply it on aching areas for warm, soothing bliss.
