My fridge isn’t cooling. The evaporator is only frosted on about the top 1″ of the evaporator. I’m aware that the evaporators are notorious for leaking. How do I locate the leak? Will a leak that small show up with a bubble type solution, or do I use a sniffer?
When it comes time to evacuate the system, I have manifold gauges, but they’re set up for automotive R134a. What are the correct fittings for the R12 system? It looks like 1/4″ flare, but I can’t tell for sure. In the automotive world the low and High side have different size fittings, but on the fridge they look to be the same.

Thanks,
Don

I need some advice from our subzero experts.
Complaint: Not Making Ice.
We found the unit with the icemaker arm bent around from the bucket being pushed back on the arm.
We replaced the icemaker and as the water level was low and it is in a rental home we removed the filter and installed a factory by pass plug.
I started the unit in Max Ice. The icemaker cycled around twice and filled to the correct water level. We thought all was good and stopped to double check it the next day, No Ice.
I checked everything over again, drawer switch etc. ok.
After posting on psanet we replaced the complete water valve w/flow sensor. I opened the valve sensor and found it had droppings in it. We thought we were ok.
I started the icemaker again on Max ice and stopped to check it again 2 days later. Still No Ice.
The wiring seems good . Power to the flow sensor comes from the Low Voltage Board and Power to the icemaker comes from the high voltage board.
Factory tech line doesn’t think it is a board.
Any advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
First of all thank you for producing the great instructional videos that you do. They really are a god send for amateur DIY folks like myself who have some mechanical skills but are approaching a new problem they are unfamiliar with – in my case a warm refrigerator.

I have a Sub-Zero refrigerator (model # 650/S) that won’t cool below approx. 50 degrees in the main refrigerator section, (the freezer section works fine). I’ve cleaned the condenser coils and cleaned the door seal, but the problem remains. I checked the condenser fan and it is running OK. I checked the compressors and both are warm and have a slight vibration, indicating (to me at least) that they are working. The evaporator fan in the man section of the refrigerator works OK as I see it spinning when I open the door. I removed the back panel of refrigerator to expose the evaporator coils and observed frosting only on the top left section where the tubes go into the evaporator. Everywhere else on the evaporator is free of frost and warm to the touch. Does this indicate a refrigerant leak at the join and necessitate replacement of the evaporator and unit recharge? Are there any other possible causes that I should check out before purchasing a new evaporator?

Thanks,
Eoin.

Have a water inlet valve with a electronic sensor added on the valve. My inquiry is how this works with the
Main logic board.

This sub-zero ice maker is only making a handful of cubes. It’s been not working correctly for a long time. The unit that’s in there is a 4317943 & I’ll be replacing it with the same. But the customer was asking if there was an OEM sub-zero ice maker that should be in there in it’s place? I didn’t think so but wanted to double check with you guys.

You can see when we close the door, the door seal gets sucked in like a vapor lock . Its takes a 220 lb. strong guy to get the door open it seals that tight. The homeowner cannot open their refrigerator.

I have a 2 drawer Subzero ref that will run for about 3 seconds and shut off. If I plug in with
top drawer unplugged unit will run and stay running until you plug the cable back in. All three
thermistors are good, evaporator was changed a year or so back and has a good frost
pattern currently. Touch pad checks good. No visible bad spots on either board.
So does anybody have any input on which of the two expensive boards is bad?

We nee your suggestion regarding repair of Subzero,mod.#650/F,
,freezer on the bottom,17 years old.
The problem is the drain hose broke off in the fresh food section
by the wall and we are not sure how can we replace a hose without removing
the whole unit from the cabinet .We are going to install a drain heater (add-on),but it’s pretty simple.
If someone has experience how to replace this hose without removing a fridge,
please let me know
Thank you in advance

I have had several sub zeros in the past couple months with this issue and I don’t know how to address it.
The ice maker does not make ice even when you select max ice on the display. There is a valve by the filter and then one more before the ice machine with a weird sensor on it. I first forced the original icemaker through a cycle by twisting the gear it looks like a Frigidaire icemaker and it went through the test cycle including filling with water at the end. But the customers all said that it only made that one batch of ice that I forced it to fill for.
All those customer said they replaced water filter before and still no ice. Reset the fridge. No ice. Checked for frozen fill tube. Made sure the water pressure is good. Made sure the switches by the ice machine work. It seems like only thing left is the main board that controls the power to ice maker and Even that makes me feel weird because why does the icemaker work when I set to max ice and forced the gear?

Freezer section is at room temp. The condenser fan is running, the evaporator fan is not. The door switches are working. Im not sure about the defrost timer. I turned it over about 5 times and nothing happened. There is no tech sheet. Can the timer or terminator stop the compressor from running?

I am not getting any power to the fan or compressor.
I disconnected the plug that leads from the power source to the box below the door switch.
there is power going into the box but not going out of it meaning supplying the compressor and fan ect

Hello, I have ice dispenser flap that is not closing all the way, on a Sub-zero side by side, because it looks like the heater on it has shorted and made a bubble on the surface. Can this part be replaced? PS it is not the round dispenser flap on the refrigerator door. It is the flap that is in between the wall that separates the freezer and refrigerator.

So originally if compressor is The Refrigerator in the freezer were extremely extremely hot and they both were not working properly I cleaned out the condenser coils and I’ve recommended that they shut the machine off for some period of time to cool the compressor is off they have done that.
Now after doing that the refrigerator compressor is working fine however the freezer section is only Cooling as if it is a refrigerator also they have mentioned that the compressor is making noise I do see that someone has replaced the start relay on the compressor with a 3in1 before I go back there I would like to know what the temperature the high and the low and how to check it on the compressor should be and how to refill it with Freon if it needs

We could really use some help on this unit. The icemaker is not working.
We can start the icemaker, it will cycle and fill. we leave it on MAX ICE. After a day it will dump 3 cubes. We have replaced the icemaker and removed the water filter and installed a bypass plug.
What are we missing?
Thanks in advance.

When I run the diagnostic it comes up with an error for fresh food “Thermister error 02 3x”
“Z3 evaporator thermistor “
But on the diagnostic diagram it says to check reading on zone 3 thermister and condenser thermister leads which I couldn’t get to.

My Sub zero refrigerator is not cooling properly.

Initial problem was the condenser fan went out so when I got there replaced the condenser fan motor with a generic one That has worked perfect for me for on Sub-Zero before And cleaned the condenser very nicely meanwhile having it Unplugged for about 15 minutes. Customer called back said it’s not cooling still in the refrigerator section and VACUUM CONDENSER light on. Found system needs refrigerant. My guess is that there is a Freon leak in the evaporator although I did not see a ice formation on either trip And the customer said it stopped cooling overnight.
-So my question is does the condenser light come on for any issue? Isn’t there also a service light that should come up instead?
-What if the vacuum condenser light or service light Keeps coming back? I had a customer a year ago that wanted me to replace his compressor and exchanger with a generic one because it was readily available and the service light and error 40/50 kept returning even tho it was cooling perfectly.
Prefer technician input over paperwork.
