the machine trys to agitate but it’s not really moving.
and there is smoke coming out of it

This sounds like a pump or motor that is tied up. There is a service bulletin on this pump , see link below.

I have taken the belt off and we have the same problem the motor tries to turn because the little bit very slowly and then shuts off
