As far as I can tell, there is a fan in the freezer that when the door is closed, it starts to spin and gets loud. When the freezer door is opened, it stops. There is also lots of ice starting to build up on the walls of the freezer.

What have you tried so far?

I’ve only pulled out the ice tray to see if there is build up, which I don’t see any. I’ve also pulled the whole unit a little further away from the wall. Now the fan isn’t as loud, I can only faintly hear it. I can hear it stop when I open the door. I just want to make sure it’s working properly, as there is lots of frozen breast milk in there that is needed.

The ice build up is a sign of a defrost issue. The fan could be hitting again this frost that has built up causing the loud noise you are hearing. The frost can cause the fan to stop running and therefore stop cooling properly. I have attached some videos on this issue with your refrigerator.

David, When you shut the freezer door it closes the evaporator fan motor switch that energizes the motor. When you open the door it shuts off the motor. If you are getting ice build up on the back wall watch the video attachment below. If you are getting temperatures in the freezer from (-5 degrees to +5 degrees) and (+35 to +45 degrees) the unit is running normal.
