Hi thanks for your video on how to replace my ice maker it worked great. However my ice maker still does not make ice. It seems to cycle one time and then quit. So if I reset it it may make one tray and that’s all. Same results with the old ice maker I replaced. Any ideas?

Model Number
RF263 FRENCH DOOR
What have you tried so far?

Replaced complete ice maker assembly. Reset switch on ice maker. Checked water line for kink. Water to fill a glass works fine in the door.

Do you have the ice function “on” at the display panel? Check this video out.

The ice maker is on. The main board is new. The ice maker is new. Both switches work. With any combination of the old/new ice maker and the old/new main board each time I press the re set button on the ice maker it harvests one tray of ice. Any last ideas and thanks so much for all of your help you have been great.
  • Hi. If it were me I would try another new ice maker. The only thing left after that would be a wiring issue. This may be very difficult, if not impossible to find. This is very strange that with all parts replaced it still is not making ice.

And what about a bad solenoid on the water inlet valve and each time I reset the ice maker the solenoid un sticks itself?
  • If you have ice in the ice maker and its not going through the cycle to eject those cubes then it’s not the water valve. The issue is that the ice maker is not going through its cycle to drop the ice. If I understand correctly your ice maker always has ice in it it just won’t cycle. This would not be a water issue.

That is correct. I push the reset button. A few seconds later ice drops. I can wait a few hours and do the same thing again. Using the old Ice maker or the new one. Using the old main board or the new one or any combination there of.

One thing I came across was a freezer basket sensor switch. Located in the freezer. p#DA34-00047B. It is 8-4 on this diagram. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/samsung-refrigerator-parts/model-RF263BEAEBCAA0001/1482/0161000/50040548/00001.html

Looks like this switch is actuated by the freezer basket or the track when the door closes. I would make sure this switch is working and that the track or basket is engaging this switch. Looks like this switch may control operation for the ice maker.

Sounds like the only thing left would be the main control board. Your temps are cold enough to make ice, you are getting water to it and you have already replaced the ice maker which works when you manually put it through a cycle. You have tested the switches. The only thing left that it could be is your control board. I would replace the board.

Can you tell me where the main board is located?
  • It’s located on the top of the refrigerator.

OK so the main board is replaced. Very easy to do thanks to your video. The ice maker is replaced. The door switch seems to work as designed and my fridge will still not make ice automatically. If I push the re set button it dings and clicks and then drops a tray of ice but only once. Any suggestions? Is there a diverter valve or solenoid? Can restricted water flow from the filter be the cause? It seems like when filling a glass of water the water stream is not as powerful as it was at one time.
  • Very odd. You have replaced all parts possible besides the switches for ice production. You verified the switches were good. You can try taping the switches down so we know they are closed. The doors may not be closing them all the way. Check all your wiring connections. Its not very likely but you could have gotten a bad part also.

Is there a water valve on this fridge that changes water from the water dispenser to the ice maker? Also you say switches in your last comment. I have only checked one switch.

When the ice maker drops one cycle are you putting the water in the first cycle or is it coming from the inlet valve ? What temperature are you getting in the ice room ? It needs to be at +16 degrees or lower to put the ice maker in the harvest cycle. We can move forward after you answer these questions.

Water is coming from the inlet valve. The freezer temp is below +16 degrees it is more like 0 or -2 My wife said the water filter is newer but not a Samsung filter. I don’t know if it matters.

I am not sure if you got this: Water is coming from the inlet valve. The freezer temp is below +16 degrees it is more like 0 or -2 My wife said the water filter is newer but not a Samsung filter. I don’t know if it matters. I seems to make ice one time after the reset button is pressed for 8 seconds.

Is you ice maker interlock switch in the closed position ? When the ice maker drops one cycle are you putting the water in the first cycle or is it coming from the inlet valve ? If it is poured in by you and dropping on the first cycle and you are getting water through the dispenser assembly you may have a defective dual water inlet valve. One side feeds the dispenser and the other fees the ice maker. If the solenoid to the ice maker is defective it will not fill the ice maker. You can test the solenoid by a continuity test. So I found the switch in the freezer and I only found one. It seems to control the light only. The switch does work. I taped off the switch in the door as well and still no production. I am now leaning towards the water valve. Is it easy to replace like the other components were? Can you help with instructions?
  • I would not think the water valve is your issue. It’s only job is to put water into the ice maker which it is doing. The issue is that the ice maker is not harvesting which would be from a bad sensor in the ice maker or the door switches not working. I would be leaning twords a bad ice maker. This is strange that it is still not working..

Does the water valve have a solenoid in it that switches from filling a glass to filling the ice maker?
  • The water inlet valve should have 2 separate solenoids. One the dispenser and one for the ice maker. I have never seen or heard of a diverter valve in an inlet valve for a refrigerator.

New main board. New Ice Maker. And with either combination of both the ice tray will harvest once after the reset button is pressed. Any last ideas before I buy ice cube trays? I am leaning towards the water inlet valve but as you can see I know nothing about refrigerator repair. By the way you guys have been AWESOME!
