Jamie, Yes you can without unplugging the unit. Watch this video link below to see how to unplug the drain without shutting it off for 24 hours. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions. We like to hear back on how the repair went. Thanks

You need to check for power to compressor. Should have 115 volts.

In reply to: thermostat replacement

James, I have posted a video link below so yo can see how the cover comes off for the thermostat. On a cooling issue like you have currently I would start with having someone check the refrigerant charge. A low charge or bad thermostat would cause this same symptom. Also I sent you a link for parts and a breakdown of your appliance below. Call 1-800-830-5465 to our parts department with any questions. Thanks Matt Ace technician

Steve, is it not heating or is the drum not turning ? What is the issue ?

Trent, You may have a low refrigerant charge or a leak in the system. See video links below.

In reply to: Communication Error?

Franklin, You have either a bad main control mother board or a defective motor control board. Sad but true you need to put on the main board first to see if the other board is bad. There is no other way to diagnose it and if both boards are bad its not normally worth the repair cost.

Is this an ice maker ?

Toni, if you are getting water and ice on the back of the vents that is an indication of either a defrost problem or a plugged condensate drain. See the video link below on a Samsung defrost issue to help solve your problem. Matt Ace Technician

Jeffery, with the symptoms you are having with the user interface I would absolutely recommend replacement. Only If you have a good harness connection. Most of the time it is the user interface, occasional the control board will be defective also. Hopefully its only the interface. Let us know how the repair turns out. Matt Ace Service technician.

Don, if its frosting up you may have an air leak causing condensation. Do you have a dispenser through the door ? If so make sure the door flap is sealing all the way and not causing air leakage. Click below on the dispenser video and maker sure your flap is closing on the unit. Here are 29 videos on this model see link…. https://www.appliancevideo.com/appliances/samsung-rf263teaesr-refrigerator/ If you need any parts call our parts department at 1-800-830-5465 or order on line at http://www.savemoreonparts.com

Art, if you have an OLM meter you can do a continuity test on the heater. If you do not have one then take out the heater and find a appliance parts dealer in your area and take it out and have them test it. They will test it free anywhere you take it. Once you find out if the heater is good email me back, if its bad just purchase it and you will be all set. Matt Ace technician

See video links for Samsung refrigerator … https://www.appliancevideo.com/appliances/samsung-rf263teaesr-refrigerator/
Art -there should be a thermal fuse+ a defrost sensor and a defrost bi metal on the evaporator of this unit -with a v.o.m. set to ohms scale you should be able to test the thermal fuse for continuity . It has a small resistor in a clear plastic cover and if it has no continuity it is bad . You can also check the heater for continuity however it is most likely ok . the defrost bi metal can also be checked for continuity but only if it is on a cold/frosted up evaporator . the sensor is difficult to read for continuity ,however if the heater , thermal fuse-and bi metal (tested on a cold/frosted up evaporator )all have continuity i would replace defrost sensor located on the evaporator and compartment thermistor located near evaporator fan (relatively inexpensive) and this should correct your problem . Hope this info proves helpful . SAM ACE TECHNICIAN

Approved Leak Checking Procedures:
Whirlpool only approves the use of dye driers ( Except on 50# under counter ice makers), standard
soap bubble solution (without dye) and electronic leak detectors when searching for a refrigerant
leak. The introduction of any gas (other than refrigerant) into a system for leak checking is not
approved or recommended.

Jason, it sounds like you may have a part of your defrost system going bad. Do you have a light layer of frost on the back freezer wall? If so here is a video link below to show you how to check your defrost system.

In reply to: Blinking Error Codes

Elisa , The Whirlpool main control board is designed to stop the cycle and not allow any further cycles if it suspects a faulty heater. Clean LED blinks 7 times and repeats and disables the start resume key until cleared. Running the Service Diagnostics clears the control and allows normal operation. If not corrected the control will stop again on the next cycle. If the element and thermostat check good, check for pinched wires. If no pinched wires replace the electronic control:

You could have a few possibilities
1) A bad motor drawing high amprege
2) A timer with bad contacts
3) A plugged dryer vent that letting the unit overheat
4) Bad coils
Click on the two video links below and watch the videos to see if they help. If they do not email us back for more suggestions. Matt Ace technician

Adam, No the ground strap will have nothing to do with the defrost problem. If you put the defrost thermostat in ice water in 5-minutes it should have continuity. That will save you $20 on the thermostat. If it does not have continuity I would just replace that. If it does replace the replace the timer and thermistor. I added a link below of the parts list for you appliance so you can find the parts and videos you need. Matt Ace service technician

I would first check to see if the fill tube on the ice maker got bumped out of place while you were working in the freezer section. if that tube is out of place the water that is supposed to fill the ice maker may be draining down into the freezer. I attached a video link for a GE refrigerator ice tube adjustment to give you an idea on what to look for. Good Luck!
