Above Samsung dishwasher flashes lights for “Smart Auto” and “Normal”. User manual says it is a “heating over temp” error. Could not find tech sheet on unit (I don’t think they put one on the unit.). I Kept a service mini manual from a previous. Looks like the temp thermistor is bad, not the PCB. Has anyone else run into this type of problem with this brand?

Hello

  • Now DW fills, wash pump starts then 1 second later drain pump starts. Unit repeats this about 4 times then beeps. The delicate light flashes (4th light from left). I have the service manual for the DW80F600 series but the service manual has the lights labelled differently. Dishwasher is ‘Smart Auto’ ‘Normal’ ‘Heavy’ ‘Delicate’ (Delicate light is flashing) Manual has ‘Normal’ ‘Heavy’ ‘Delicate’ ‘Smart Auto’ Do I go by the position of the light? This means there is a water supply error, most likely a flow meter problem? Or do I go by the light label? Delicate light flashing means a drain error, as listed in the owners manual. The problem with a “drain error” is that the DW pumps out the water fine, as good as I have seen on other units if not better.
  • There are 2 versions of this dishwasher with the same model. The only way to tell which version is by serial number. The error codes are the same for both, but the parts are totally different. Go with the name on the controls as the manual is wrong in their placement. If the delicate light is flashing, this indicates that it is sensing a drain error. If there is water in the unit, I would suspect a drain pump or other related issue. If there is no water in the unit then I would suspect that you have an early version of this dishwasher that has an ECS sensor. The ECS sensor was used in place of a temperature sensor in the early models, but it also senses water. The problem is that the ECS sensor will often times become dirty and cause mis-readings and errors. There is a firmware upgrade to take the water sensing portion of the ECS sensor out of the circuit and just use the ECS sensor for temperature detection. This firmware upgrade is only available by replacing the main board- which may be under warranty from Samsung as they usually have multi year warranties on their main boards for dishwashers. The repair for this (early version) includes replacing the ECS sensor and the main board to resolve. This assumes again that there is no visible water in the bottom of the tub. Just replacing the ECS sensor will only temporarily resolve the issue. You must replace the main board to resolve the firmware upgrade. Make sure you are getting the correct parts as this can be tricky due to the multiple versions. If you can supply me with the serial number, I can also confirm which version you have.
