There is a sturdy piece of plastic where i though the grommet should be and i am afraid to pull it out because i might break it.

What have you tried so far?
I defrosted the entire refrigerator for 24 hours. It melted everything. I checked the overload relay by removing it and shaking it to see if there were any loose items inside of it.
