I have provided a service manual and a parts breakdown. I believe your model number is missing a ( 6 )after the ( S ) . Matt Ace technician
GE Refrigerator Fault Code = 86 or 88 error
Refrigerator/Freezer Condition = Possible power surge/electrical issue.
Repair or Check = Clear the display by unplugging the refrigerator for 5 minutes and then plugging it back in. The control board may have experienced a power surge.
Replace Parts = Unplug to reset or Control Board faulty
That segment of the 88 indicates a freezer sensor error, from the main board check the voltage from connector CN30 #3 to CN75 #1. It should be between 1.0V to 4.5V DC (which you probably will). The sensor, with CN30 unplugged, CN30 Pin# 3 to CN10 Pin# 3 should read 13290 ohms at 32 degrees (in a glass of ice water) plus or minus about 500 ohms. Hope you are good with a meter. 🙂
