To whom it may concern,
I have a whirlpool WRF757SDEM refrigerator that recently has a loud noise coming that appears to be coming from the top section. Last year I replaced the evaporator fan and thermostat as the unit has frozen up and stopped cooling. After that fan was replaced the unit was very quit and running normally.
Recently ( past 3 days) it has gotten very loud at times with a slight vibration. At times, the sound is very loud, but then it gets quieter; almost to normal levels.
The top unit is cold and maintains temperature, there isn’t any issue making ice and everything is cold and frozen in the freezer.
I am wondering if its an issue with the evaporator fan and if that needs to be replaced again.
Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards,
Kris

I would start with the service pointer . The thermistor in the service pointer needs to be tight on the refrigerant line and in the correct location. Follow the instructions in the service pointer. That will cause it to freeze up.

Hello Kris
There is a possibility of frost build up on your evaporator. I would look at the evaporator coil to see if there is any frost on it. If there is, the evaporator fan motor blade could be hitting the frost build up and causing noise. If that is happening order the part number kit below. See the directions below for the Service Pointer ( Frost on Freezer evaporator ) . If the blade is not hitting frost, you could have a bad blade that is stripped or a defective evaporator motor.

  • but I also replaced the thermistor
  • I would replaced the bimetal thermostat, shut the unit down for 24Hours to completely thaw out. Make sure your freezer and refrigerator door seals are at 100% . If they are not it will cause humidity and ice to form on coil. Check to make sure your interior light is not staying on causing humidity. I had one last week with this exact same condition. The door when closed was leaving the light on causing the unit to frost up over time.
  • Thank you for the information. I did remember 1 thing that might have contributed to the additional humidity. I changed the water filter earlier in the week and for some reason it was leaking. We saw water coming from the drop down door, but the filter was fully engaged and installed. My wife and I drained the small door and removed the filter and reseated it and it stopped the leak. Could this have caused the excess moisture that would cause the humidity? If so why would this leak with a new filter? Thank you again for any help and information on this
  • Sometimes the filter head goes bad. It is spring loaded with a rubber seal in it. We have had to change the head many times after a filter replacement, the heads go bad maybe 5% of the time. And yes, that would cause moisture and humidity if leaking.
  • do you happen to have a part 3 for the filter head?
