So the dryer was making a rattling sound when it starts and ends.
I thought it was the belt or ideal arm so I changed them .
No luck the noise is Evan worse now and the drum has no force to it.
Meaning if I put in a wet load it will not turn.
2. After I put the dryer back I have a strong burning smell when we start the washer.
It filled with water but will not advance to anything else.
I hear the timer clicking but that’s all I Get.
It is a 25 year old machine.

I’m glad you did that test. Yes, if that motor will not go, but did when you started turning it you have a bad motor. Here is a video on the motor replacement.

Your welcome! Attached is a video for the blower wheel repair. When the belts slip they create a burning rubber smell on the washer. You could have a drain pump bearing tied up, or the tub is unable to spin causing the belts to slip. Also , could just be worn belts with a heavy load in spin that causes this smell. Attached is a video for the washer belt as well.

well i was able t turn the belts both ways and it moved. when i tried to turn the tub by turning the transmission by hand it was very very hard
  • It could be the bearing, transmission or brake at this point. When the brakes are bad it usually has a brown liquid leaking out of the bottom on the pulley. You can open the brake and check the bearings in sixe the brake. You need a brake tool to do this. The last one of these washers I looked at with this issue needed a transmission.

It sounds like your blower wheel is not attached to your motor shaft. This will cause the noise at the beginning and end of the cycle. As for the drum not turning and the burning smell. It sounds like the belt is not installed properly. Theses belts go on different than all other belts. There should have been instructions in the package. They go on backwards. The smooth side of the belt goes against the drum. This allows the grove side of the belt to engage the groves on the motor shaft once it’s around the pulley properly.
