Hi Todd,
If the agitator is floating up and it is at attached to the transmission shaft, then it sounds like you will need to replace the transmission. The shaft should not have that kind of play in it. You will need a spanner wrench to remove the nut.

Hello
The most common problem for an oven shutting down on this model is a weak bake igniter. Do you get any error messages on the control panel when the oven shuts down ? If you have no errors I would start with the bake igniter. I have sent a parts breakdown with a igniter part number below. Matt Ace technician

I keep the mode shifter on my truck. Takes no time to put on and retry. When it does this, the best way to tell is to lean the machine back, (or on its front), and look at the position of the shifter arm. If it is midway between agitate and spin, there’s a good sign. If the machine has had at least 3 years of regular use, consider changing the cam and spring assembly as well to assure smooth shifting. Be sure to calibrate the machine after replacing the shifter, etc.
Is the pump draining efficiently? The control sees the water level as it drops during pump out.

This could be a failure of the 8- position cycle selector switch, as it appears it feeds circuits to the main control for cycle selections. The part number is 137493300. Try replacing it….

There is a bulletin from 2011 on this type of issue but your model number was not listed . This dishwasher was made near the end of 2013. It also does not have the type of vent system described in the service pointer. I would call Whirlpool direct at 1-866-698-2538 to get more direct information.

Hi Todd, This unit has 2 evaporators. One in the freezer and one in the refrigerator. Both are behind the back panels in each section. I have attached a link to the parts break down on this unit to assist you in taking it apart. Sounds like you are on the right track. It could also be a lot of different things as well. Make sure all fans and the compressor are running. Check your air flow in both units. Make sure you are getting air flow out of the vents. Check for frost on the back panels which would indicate a defrost issue. Nothing that I am aware of that is common to go out on these units. Let me know if you need any further assistance on this unit.

It is possible something like loose change is moving around in the sump? Drain hose not forced too far into standpipe its it ?There’s a good chance it could be the control, however you want to check the inlet to the pump before you condemn the control. I generally drop the large end of the sump hose off the tub and check that area. If it is clear, there is usually not much recourse but to replace the control.

Sounds like a possible valve failure if it fills slowly on its own. The pressure sensor is locking out the controls until the water is drained off and the unit repaired. This unit was made starting in 2008.

Go to page 39 and follow the steps to enter diagnostic mode. There you will be able to check for stored error codes and manually test the washer out. It sounds like you may have an issue in the clutch assembly, motor or something jammed up preventing agitation.

The error you are getting ( CE ) is a communication error. You have two possibilities 1) The main control board 2) User interface board. There is no way to test either board. We take out both boards and start with the main control board. Sometimes the main control will damage the user interface board and you will need both boards. We have found that 90% of the time it is only the main control board. Its always better to take both boards and send one back if not needed. One of our technicians just did this exact model last week with the CE error and the main control board took care of it. Good luck witrh your project. Matt Ace technician

You welcome. I’m attaching a video that shows how to take apart a LG dryer. This may not be your exact model but will be taken apart about the same. Here is a link to the parts break down on your model as well. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/lg-parts-dryer-parts/model-DLG3171W/3204/0151200.html?searchType=modelSearch&prst=&q=DLG3171&searchTerm=DLG3171W&shdPart=

Here is a video I found to help answer your question on the bearing and spider. Both are fairly common to go bad. To help diagnose a bad bearing, check to see if the basket has play in it. Open the door and lift the basket up. Does the basket move up and down with out the tub moving with it. This is the play that I am referring to . Also, has the unit been making a noise in spin lately? This is the most common symptom of a bad bearing.

Hi. I was able to look your model number up. The L.P covers ion kit is part# 383eel3002a. This job should take about 1 hour to complete for a technician. Sorry we do not currently have a video on this model. I am working on finding a video or instructions on how to take this unit apart for you.

Hi atonce,
I will help you find out what’s wrong with your washer. I will need to get some more information first. When you start a Cycle does the unit fill with water and then will not agitate? Does it just sit at the spot it is suppose to agitate with no noises? Does the time count down? Are there any error Codes on the display? Do you have access to the tech sheet?

Hi Todd, The first thing I would do is check your rotor at the back of the washer. There should be an access panel to remove from the rear of the unit to give you access to the stator and rotor. See if the rotor nut is loose or if something is causing it to lock up when rotated. When you rotate the basket it is normal for there to be some resistance in spots and no resistance in others because of the magnets this unit uses in the rotor. If you do not find any issues, gain access into diagnostic mode where you can run some tests and check for stored error codes. Let me know what you find out.
