HI. Yes there are 2 stop pans that have to be removed to take out the top basket. Use a flat blade screw driver to remove them from each side of the track. Then the basket can be removed. Are you getting noise from inside the freezer or the compressor? The compressor is located at the back of the unit and is accessed from the rear of the unit. Not through the freezer.

when you removed evaporator cove was there a complete frost pattern on the evaporator? if not its a sealed system problem if there was a light coating of frost across complete evaporator you may have just a bad fan motor that motor is just a one speed motor also check the return air passages to fresh food section if there blocked wont move air down to fridge

that is a duel evaporator system i wound look for and iced up fresh food evaporator you need to remove the cover in the fresh food section to access the evaporator if the cover wont come off dont force it unplug refridge and let it thaw out you need to ohm out the defrost heater and fuse if its not one of them maybe the board

try putting one shim in it see if that takes care of it but you may have bad transmission

that machine has a spring loaded idler and that keeps belt tight look for missing spring or check the routing of the belt

Hi. I just had this same complaint on this unit. I could not find any issues. I even replaced the ice bucket and it still would dispense crushed ice with the cubed ice. So I called Maytag tech line and they informed me that this is normal. The ice bucket door is set up for crushed ice so you will get a small amount of crushed ice when you call for cubed ice. This is this way on their new units. It looks like your unit is the same.

sounds like a defrost problem you need to remove evaporator cover and check the defrost heater and defrost therm with a volt ohm meter. if heater and therm test fine i would replace mother board and evaporator sensor

Fault is displayed when the main control cannot determine speed of basket.
• Locked rotor—check that basket, impeller, and motor can rotate freely.
• Check harness connections from main control to motor and shifter. also ck the wiring between shifter and control board the tech guide is located in front of machine you have to raise top by removing the 3 1,4 screw in the back panel

One more question 🙂 Here is a link to my compressor specifications: http://www.the-acc-group.com/ACCDocs/157.pdf I can not google for protection device (it is under “Electrical components” title on the second page). Can you help me to identify this device?

Your welcome! I hope it works!! IF not you will need a compressor which in most cases is not a cost effective repair.

Thomas, the clicking is most likely associated with the element trying to come on, but failing. I’ll add a video below for you to take a look at, as well as the part information you’ll need. This is a relatively easy fix that I think you can handle.

OK, Thanks I’ll give the start device a go. I’ll let you know if it worked.
Thanks again.
- ROBERT answered 11 years ago
You can install a universal start device that is more powerful than the one you have installed. In many cases this will get the compressor running again. The compressor may not last long as this part will shorten the life of the compressor in many cases, but if your in a pinch could get this unit running again for you. I have attached a link to the part.

You will need to check that the display board is getting proper voltage from the main board. You will need the tech sheet you find out what connections to test this at using a multi meter. If you are getting correct voltage to the display board you will need to replace it. If not it could be wiring or the main board.

You may have arcing occurring in the wave guide. Where ever the arcing is happening, you should be able to see it. There should be a black reside . You may have to take it apart to find out where it is arcing.

Hi, Brian! Here is a link to my model: http://refrigerator.tech-details.com/Hotpoint-Ariston_HBD_1201.4_NF

If the door springs are good you may need the links that attached the door to the springs. attached is a link to the part.

This clicking can either be caused by a faulty overload and relay on the compressor, or a faulty main control board. Sounds to be like the overload and relay is at fault. Verify where the clicking is coming from and replace that part. I could not look the model number up you provided.

First thing to check is that your compressor and fans are running. If all theses are running, check your frost pattern on the evaporator. If it is not an even frost pattern across the whole evaporator you have a bad compressor, a restriction in the system, or a leak. IF you have heavy frost build up you have a defrost issue.
