I would like to know if all these refrigerators are setup to accept ice makers or do I have to drill holes?

My fridge isn’t cooling. The evaporator is only frosted on about the top 1″ of the evaporator. I’m aware that the evaporators are notorious for leaking. How do I locate the leak? Will a leak that small show up with a bubble type solution, or do I use a sniffer?
When it comes time to evacuate the system, I have manifold gauges, but they’re set up for automotive R134a. What are the correct fittings for the R12 system? It looks like 1/4″ flare, but I can’t tell for sure. In the automotive world the low and High side have different size fittings, but on the fridge they look to be the same.

Thanks,
Don

after I purchased my new home I cleaned my refrigerator and freezer out really good and I think I may have got water somewhere and potentially blew a fuse because before I cleaned it the ice dispenser and water dispenser both work finethe ice maker control light blinks twice stops for one second then repeats I’ve made sure that there was no obstruction to the optical part and still blinks twice what is the problem?

My Maytag refridgerator quit making ice. It is a French door freezer on bottom style. The water dispensor still works. Thanks to your videos I was able to take out the icemaker and found that there were some ice cubes in it. However they were small and some were almost non existent. I didn’t see any ice jams or froze up lines. We have had the fridge for a little over a year and had no problems. It did this last weekend and messed with it and got it going. But this fix lasted about 3 days. What should i look for next?
Thanks,
Wade

My Kenmore elite side by side compressor has been running all the time. The door seals appear to be ok and I cleaned out the condenser coil. The unit is not going into a defrost mode. Is there anything you guys think may be causing the problem. George

I can dispense water but not ice. I took the ice maker out and found a couple ice cubes in the forms and some empty ones. It dropped one ice cube the other day. I couldn’t find an ice blockage anywhere. How do I know if I need a new ice maker , valve, or other part?

Hello,
Thank you guys for having this web page. I had a large power spike that has played hell with my house. The surge melted my cable for Internet and cable, the dryer isn’t getting hot, the dishwasher has no power and the fridge isn’t getting cold. I contacted whirlpool about a relay switch and this model does not have one. The lights work on the fridge, it blows out semi cold air. The compressor is cool to the touch and everything works minus cooling (you know the important part) I was wondering if you guys had any ideas or videos similar to this unit to test the compressor.

The dishwasher may tag model number is mdbh969aws2 doesn’t come on, I am sure the circuit board is fried but I don’t even know how to get to that. Please help!

Returned from vacation, fridg had been unplugged. Plugged back in. Ice maker did not make ice . turned icemaker off(switch on it) turned back on 8 hrs later. Checked 8 hrs later. It made 2-3 batches ice. Maybe smaller cubes. Then it made no more. Removed ice maker re: your video(thanks). There were 3-4 of the water recepticles at the back of the mold that had frozen cubes in them, 1/2 to 1/4 size, rest were dry. I cleaned them out, reinstalled ice maker, turned it on , waited 12-14 hrs, checked, no ice. Filler tube not iced or blocked. I replaced water filter in refrig. before anything else. Water supply is from a reverse osmosis, and is a small line. Also I have a soft water system(salt type) that supplies water to the house. note: I do get water from the dispenser in refrig. door. Is there a way to use keypad to “cycle” ice maker for diagnosis? Do you think I should use an alternate supply line( copper, bigger to the refrig.? I don’t want to start throwing parts at this thing until I know what’s wrong. Thanks, Ron

My whirlpool fridge has lately been leaking about half a cup of water by the front left side. Is this a drain problem? If so, do you have replacement part for this model?
Thanks

My fridge started a double beeping noise. At the same time the freezer and refg temps rose. I cleaned the coils in front bottom and fan by compressor. The temps are running @ 14* in freezer and 44* on refg. I tried turning off the cooling system and restarted after 2 minutes but no change in temps. I watched your video on changing the compressor kick starter. Not sure what to do. The fridge is 7 – 8 years old. Can you give me some advise?
Thanks, Lynn

I have a maytag side by side fridge with ice maker and water dispenser in the door that worked perfect. Until I removed the doors to transport it to another location. When I placed the doors back on I have no water or ice dispenser. it still makes ice. there is power going to the door panel because the lights are on. When you push the button for ice nothing happens the auger motor does not turn or the trap door for the ice does not open. the same when you push the button for the water nothing happens. I check for power going to the switch. I have power at the switch and the power goes to the mother board but does not go any father then that. is it possiable that the board burnt out just like that. any help you can give me would be appricated thank you

Thanks for the great video on fixing the leaking water in the may tag refrigerator. Prior to seeing your video I removed the rear panel looking for a blockage in the drain. I removed the black nipple and found a small white rubber piece inside. I’ve removed it but was wondering if I should put it back? Thanks again for the video!

The bottom freezer compartment has been accumulating ice on compartment floor. Water frequently pools on the kitchen floor. After watching your video, I removed the back panel and inspected the duck bill foot valve (grommet). It was dry. No accumulated gunk inside. The drain pan designed to catch drain water from the drain tube w/ grommet was also dry. Did not look like water had been there for a long time if ever. The refrigerator is just over three years old. This problem has been with us for at least a year. It appears there is a stoppage in the drain tube above the grommet. Any suggestions?
Thank you

I have been dealing with the issue of the refrigerator freezing over and the fan being covered in ice for almost 5 years. I have taken the fridge apart, defrosted it and put it back together. This now happenes every 3 months and it’s very frustrating. One repair man installed a piece that Samsung said repairs the issue, bit that did not work. I saw your video and was wondering if replacing the evaporator defrost system actually worked and if so, how long has it been since it was replaced? Is this a long term solution, how much success have people had with it?

I have been wrestling with this for the past two days – ever since my wife noticed that everything in the fridge was frozen. This is a Samsung unit with the fridge on top and the freezer on the bottom. The freezer is working just fine and the freezer display agrees with a separate freezer thermometer I put inside the freezer. The fridge side, however, is set at 38*, but the internal thermometer says it’s about 12* in there!

I downloaded the service manual for this model fridge, but it is rather poorly written. I checked for trouble codes, but I didn’t have anything that matched what was in the service manual. On start up my display will completely light up for a second or two, then go dark and then a number “3” will pop up of the refrigerator side of the display. Then the display will show the actual temperatures of the freezer and fridge before going back to displaying the selected temperature settings.

A quick online search indicates a bad thermistor in the refrigerator section. I am a little wary because on start up, the fridge displays actual temperature quite accurately. Some thermometer inside the fridge is working. I get that a thermistor is not a thermometer and that if the thermistor is responsible for making the fridge self-defrost, then I guess it would make sense.

I suspect that the fridge evaporator is completely iced over. In an effort to remedy this, I went into the “forced operation” mode and selected fridge defrost. I’m currently listening to my bridge beep constantly as I wait to see if this does anything.

Food safety is something that I really obsess about and getting this fridge back to normal as quickly as possible is a huge priority for me.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

My fridge stopped working after our neutral line in the house was severed blowing most appliances not on protectors. I replaced the control board hoping it would fix it like my stove but not so.
Reprogramed to code 12 and the board is working correctly fan comes on but make a chugging sound (did that when it worked right) but no compressor. I looked at the wiring diagram and see a relay for the compressor, could this be it or is there another fuse or issue I may have. How do I trouble shoot this from here? Or is my fridge beyond repair?

It made 1-2 trays , maybe smaller, after being turned on after vacation. No more. Took icemaker out (thanks to your video).
There were 2or 3 of the back receptacles in the mold that had a little ice in them. I cleaned them out, reinstalled icemaker.
I also replaced the water supply line with a new one and hooked it to a direct water inlet valve so that it would have plenty of water pressure. Didn’t help. Still no water being supplied into mold. Supply tube into mold not iced up. Any ideas? This refrigerator is 1yr. 9mos. old
