My Kemore freezer is not cooling properly

This is an upright freezer only. I recently replaced the non-working evaporator fan motor with a new OEM motor. I placed a data logger in the freezer for 3 days. Temperatures in the top are averaging 30 degrees and the bottom shelf zero. Complaint is food is soft on the top shelf. The frost pattern on evaporator was good. The freezer is loaded up pretty full but it appears to me that there is adequate space for air to flow. One thing I noticed was when I would pull the evaporator wall forward the evaporator motor fan motor sounded like it would speed up. I’m not sure is this is just because I could then hear the fan better or if it was actually speeding up due to less restricted air flow. There was door seal problem as well but this was corrected before I placed the data logger in place and the seal is good. The cold control is set on #5 which is colder than the customer normally had to set it. I was wondering if I need to replace the cold control or if the evap motor is possibly spinning to slow. Thank you for any advice.

The door seal had a tiny gap near the bottom, that wouldn’t be enough to cause this issue would it?

Everything checks out on this as far as components. I did find the drain line frozen and advised them to thaw for up to 48hrs to ensure it melted completely. For some reason I didn’t think this happened on these models very often and kept assuming to find an issue with a part. Should I just have them monitor for proper operation? Would be great to know this was the cause.

Frigidaire upright freezer control on door had an “8” and was not running. Unplugged freezer and it worked again. I suspect it was flashing “E” and “8”. I checked servicetips.com service manual, file name ends with 5995531505. It says E8 is a shorted thermistor. Do I need to go back and check this? Is replacing the thermistor the only part needed or is there a pcb/control (besides the one in the door) needing to be replaced?
I need some feedback from someone who has more experience with these freezers.

Model – 253.26082100 Serial – WB63832311

Display in door flashing CE. Disconnected / reconnected wiring harness from control board that goes to display. Did not changed anything . Found upon opening door slowly display would clear out CE and then come back as you moved door.
Suspect wiring harness in door problem. Parts breakdown shows harness in bottom of door, but no part number. Anybody come across this before? Are you able to replace this harness? Thanks in advance

There is a huge ball of ice engulfing the evaporator in the back of the unit, what would cause this to happen?

How can we check this? I really don’t want to buy a new one and think we can fix it.

My neighbor thinks it’s something to do with a board or the electronics failing.

I am having an issue with ice gathering at the bottom of my freezer (bottom mount on fridge). It then accumulates and water leaks on to my floor. This was a great video to help me understand the issue, however, when I went to order this part (W10619951), sears sent me the part called Tube Drain (W10344402) which is the exact same part that is currently in place. The grommet is pretty small as well.

How am I able to order the part that is in the video? For now, I cut the grommet a little making it easier for water to flow through, however, I’m nervous too much heat may go up in the hole. Is that something to be concerned with? Would it be advised to just remove the grommet all together?

I took a blow dryer to the inside of the freezer as well and dumped water down the drain hole, which did come out of the other end. Wasn’t able to figure out how to take the back paneling (inside the freezer) off for easier access however.

Thanks for your help. In regards to the part shown in the video (below), I live in Canada.

As far as I can tell, there is a fan in the freezer that when the door is closed, it starts to spin and gets loud. When the freezer door is opened, it stops. There is also lots of ice starting to build up on the walls of the freezer.

Hi i have a problem with the freezer coils freezing over with ice, the code flashes 3 but i just watched your video about the heater wrap around the freezer being replaced, the freezer drain is always frozen solid and wont drain without a lot of effort on my part to make sure it is clear, now the fridge side is getting a pool of water under the bottom drawer. looking forward to hearing from you, thanks for such a great site to come to for help!!! Ken
P.S. it is my understanding that the code means it is a sensor for the heater. ???

Good morning,

My GE Upright freezer is not freezing. I unplugged it because it felt like a refrigerator and I am not able to find a video on my freezer in your repair videos. I did see one that was similar to my GE that the guy name Ryan was doing with a Kenmore. I have removed the panel and needless to say there is not ice because I unplugged it days ago. Do you have a video for my GE upright or do you think it is the same problem that the Kenmore video showed?

We found our ice team getting soft and realized the freezer was not doing its job. After a little looking around we found the air outlets on the back panel of the fridge were iced over. I then removed the back panel and found the evaporator coil iced up. The fan had a history of being noisy since it was new so I figured the fan died and the lack of air flow over the coil caused all of my problems. I replaced the back panel assy. Which included the fan. This did not fix my problem. The freezer is reading 65 and the fridge is at 38. I do not here the new fan run at all. I do appreciate any and all help you may provide and parts that I can purchase through you.

Thank you,
Mike Wynne

I have the above Model refrigerator freezer and have been experiencing the ice up problem. I would like to know if the P-Trap kit is available for my model. If so, is it your opinion that this would solve the problem, and what is the cost of the kit?
Thanks!

In your ice-maker repair video, the technician uses a “jumper wire”; what is a jumper wire, and can any gauge wire work?

Our 3 yr old upright frost free kenmore freezer (2845) seemed to be cooling erratically and I noticed ice build up on the freezer bottom floor. I cleaned the ice off the floor and checked for leaking food – none. The ice has returned. I looked at your videos and think the problem may be a clogged drain. However, I’m not sure how to get at the drain on this model. Thanks for the advice!

I changed the duck bill drain per you video (it was stopped up) and installed the new pea trap drain with no problem yesterday. I didn’t have time to get the ice out of the bottom till today..just finished doing that..I still had water on the floor this afternoon. Could it be because I didn’t get the ice out till today or am I frozen somewhere else?? I can see a frozen trickle of ice in the back right corner of the freezer. Thought about using a hairdryer in that area but I’m not sure if I should.

I would like to know how to put this freezer into the defrost cycle. it was frosted up, so i took it apart and defrosted it. the heater was ok. the defrost thermostat read open even frozen in the ice. after I jiggled the wires a little then it showed good. I replaced it anyway. I would like to put an amp clamp on it while its cold and kick it into defrost to make sure its fixed. i know some of them you open the door a couple of times. I would like to know the sequence to put this one in defrost .

I installed the updated drain fix kit and our freezer still accumulates a sheet of ice in the bottom which inturn leaks onto the floor. Do I need to defrost the freezer for this to be fixed or is there another issue? Our ice maker also stopped working, I’m not sure if that is related to this issue or not.
Many thanks!
