THE UNIT SHUTS OFF AT ABOUT 30 DEGREE F. THE T-STAT IS A DISCONTINUED PART. I HAVE OTHER T-STATS BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE WIRING DIAGRAM SO I CAN FIGURE OUT IF ONE OF THESE OTHERS WILL WORK. THE T-STAT HAS 3 WIRES AND A GROUND. I’M THINKING ONE WIRE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEFROST CYCLE? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS
HAPPY NEW YEAR

As far as I can tell, there is a fan in the freezer that when the door is closed, it starts to spin and gets loud. When the freezer door is opened, it stops. There is also lots of ice starting to build up on the walls of the freezer.

I asked you last week about a Kenmore upright freezer that I determined to have a bad compressor. I got there and the temp in the freezer was 68*. I was told that it stopped freezing a few days ago, ( probably more than that ) and so I checked the evap/fan and it was working fine. So, I pulled it out and checked the compressor and it was so hot, I could barely touch it. I unplugged it for about 15 minutes and put a hard start on it, because the relay was bad. Let it run for about 20 minutes. Both the compressor and hard start were hot.
I was schooled to think that if the compressor is that HOT, and has been running like that for a while; that it’s NO GOOD. The reason is, as I was told, that the high temp breaks down the oils, etc in the compressor.
My customer had another freezer ( chest type ) and it was also NOT freezing. I opened the compressor panel and checked the temperature of the compressor and it was HOTTER than her upright. ( sho has a coffee plus shop ). I told her that both freezers were no good.
Anyways she called her refrigeration service people out. He told her, that the only thing wrong with the chest freezer is that it needs to be defrosted.
QUESTION: was I schooled correctly to think that if the compressor runs that hot for an ” unknown ” period of time that it is NO GOOD?

I installed the updated drain fix kit and our freezer still accumulates a sheet of ice in the bottom which inturn leaks onto the floor. Do I need to defrost the freezer for this to be fixed or is there another issue? Our ice maker also stopped working, I’m not sure if that is related to this issue or not.
Many thanks!

I have a customer with an upright freezer. It stands taller than a regular fridge. Well I’ll get to the point. After diagnosing the problem, I proceeded to put the back evap cover panel back on AND I put the screw right thru the coil tubing. Ah s#~}%~~! I couldn’t believe that the screw hole was a 1/4 inch from the coil.
Well ” things happens” and it seems to happen to me an awful lot. The model / serial numbers that I gave to you, are barely readable, so I don’t even know IF they are correct. I offered to work something out with the customer, which turned out FOR ME to be a nightmare. She is a pack rat. It took me over an hour to remove the freezer from her house, because there was ONLY a path to get from one room to another. She had junk everywhere….
I took the freezer to a fellow repair tech that fixed the hole, blah blah blah. An hour after I dropped of her freezer, she called me to find out the status on it. One hour! I got several calls. So, I just stopped picking up the phone.
I offered to turn the case over to my insurance company but that was not an option…. So, I can’t tell you how many hours I spent trying to fix and satisfy this customer.
Here is my question, for further reference. I’m NOT going thru this again. Is there a website or something that I could use to determine the value of an appliance, and just pay the customer a fair price ?

In your ice-maker repair video, the technician uses a “jumper wire”; what is a jumper wire, and can any gauge wire work?

This is an upright freezer only. I recently replaced the non-working evaporator fan motor with a new OEM motor. I placed a data logger in the freezer for 3 days. Temperatures in the top are averaging 30 degrees and the bottom shelf zero. Complaint is food is soft on the top shelf. The frost pattern on evaporator was good. The freezer is loaded up pretty full but it appears to me that there is adequate space for air to flow. One thing I noticed was when I would pull the evaporator wall forward the evaporator motor fan motor sounded like it would speed up. I’m not sure is this is just because I could then hear the fan better or if it was actually speeding up due to less restricted air flow. There was door seal problem as well but this was corrected before I placed the data logger in place and the seal is good. The cold control is set on #5 which is colder than the customer normally had to set it. I was wondering if I need to replace the cold control or if the evap motor is possibly spinning to slow. Thank you for any advice.

I have the above Model refrigerator freezer and have been experiencing the ice up problem. I would like to know if the P-Trap kit is available for my model. If so, is it your opinion that this would solve the problem, and what is the cost of the kit?
Thanks!

We found our ice team getting soft and realized the freezer was not doing its job. After a little looking around we found the air outlets on the back panel of the fridge were iced over. I then removed the back panel and found the evaporator coil iced up. The fan had a history of being noisy since it was new so I figured the fan died and the lack of air flow over the coil caused all of my problems. I replaced the back panel assy. Which included the fan. This did not fix my problem. The freezer is reading 65 and the fridge is at 38. I do not here the new fan run at all. I do appreciate any and all help you may provide and parts that I can purchase through you.

Thank you,

Good morning,

My GE Upright freezer is not freezing. I unplugged it because it felt like a refrigerator and I am not able to find a video on my freezer in your repair videos. I did see one that was similar to my GE that the guy name Ryan was doing with a Kenmore. I have removed the panel and needless to say there is not ice because I unplugged it days ago. Do you have a video for my GE upright or do you think it is the same problem that the Kenmore video showed?

THE “DOOR AJAR” ALARM KEEPS SOUNDING. IT STOPPED FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN CAME BACK. I CHANGED THE DOOR SWITCH WITH NO EFFECT. THE UNIT IS COOLING WELL AND THE DOOR SHUTS PROPERLY. I’M THINKING IT’S IN THE BOARD. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THANKS
